In the coming years, autoimmune disease is set to have a huge increase in mainstream awareness .  If you look at the numbers the AARDA has published, there are 50 million people suffering from autoimmune diseases.  That alone will drive awareness as it equates to 1 in every 6 people in the U.S.  There has also been spikes in awareness with celebrities Selena Gomez and Victoria Justice publicly discussing their diagnoses.  Another sign came this week with a report published by Pharmaion stating that the autoimmune disorders diagnostic market will grow to $6 billion in sales by 2020.  The report notes that “Growth in the market is anticipated on account of growing disease burden of various autoimmune disorders, increasing healthcare expenditure and various ongoing technological advancements”.   The report later states the growth is anticipated “on account of increasing ongoing research activities”.    All of these are indicators that awareness of the disease will also continue to grow.

Our hope with DimoStrong is to play a role in growing that awareness.  As public awareness of autoimmune disease increases so will the funding and, in turn, the research.
